The Sancta Maria Chapel, designed by architect C. Estourgie and completed in 1924, is a key component of the architectural ensemble of Sancta Maria. Executed in a streamlined expressionist style, the chapel originally served as a space for reflection and as a connecting element between Villa Madeleine and the pension building. Over the years, it has retained its role as a meeting place and remains a recognizable symbol of the complex.
With its striking towers and refined façade details, the chapel adds a spiritual dimension to the historical and architectural significance of Sancta Maria. Within the current master plan, the chapel is set to be repurposed as a space for communal gatherings. Small, strategic interventions—such as modern utilities and subtle adjustments—ensure that the chapel remains both functional and inspiring.
The chapel is not only a monument in its own right but also plays a crucial role in connecting with the surrounding gardens and pathways. The building underscores the harmony between architecture and landscape, respecting and restoring historical sightlines and structures.
As part of the overarching master plan, the chapel contributes to a sustainable vision that integrates care, community, and heritage. Expansion opportunities are seamlessly incorporated into the existing landscape, safeguarding the quality and cohesion of the entire complex. The chapel continues to serve as a place of tranquility in an environment that exudes harmony between people, nature, and architecture.
