sancta maria villa Madeleine

healthcare

Villa Madeleine, built between 1840 and 1860, is one of the most characteristic elements of the Sancta Maria complex. Originally known as Villa Kemedjing, the villa served as a country house. Following an expansion in the early 20th century, the building became central to the care concept of the Sisters of Mercy. The villa was transformed into a refuge for the elderly and eventually took on the name Villa Madeleine.

Today, the villa is undergoing a meticulous renovation, with a focus on sustainability and the preservation of its historical significance. The redesign aims to support caregivers with workspaces and facilities that enhance the efficiency of daily care. The original architecture, with its elegant façades and carefully crafted interiors, remains a source of inspiration throughout the restoration process.

Within the master plan, Villa Madeleine serves as a cornerstone symbolizing the connection between the past and the future. Historic sightlines to the surrounding gardens are being restored and integrated into a contemporary landscape design. The villa plays a pivotal role in preserving the cultural identity of Sancta Maria, acting as a link between the pension building, the chapel, and the surrounding grounds.

The future of Villa Madeleine is inextricably tied to the broader master plan, which not only includes expansion opportunities but also strengthens the ideological foundation of care, living, and community. This ensures that the villa remains a living testament to the past while laying the groundwork for an innovative and sustainable future.
