borghoutspark
They are called ‘bunker homes’, the buildings at Borghoutspark in Veldhoven. Initially, these houses formed an army base for enlisted German…
Actor, comedian and writer Leo Alkemade lives on the edge of downtown Tilburg, together with his wife and four children. Their Burgundian lifestyle created the need for a larger kitchen, with an extension at the rear of their home as a logical consequence.
It was the family’s desire to enlarge the kitchen, while preserving as much of their garden as possible. The most obvious solution was to tear down the detached shed next to the kitchen and reuse this area for the extension. This approach has resulted in a large kitchen, where the entire family can come together.
The original Dudok-style of the house has been honored in the design of the extension. At the rear of the house, identical Hilversum size bricks and window frames have been used. The overall design is characterized by its classic simplicity. The end result is an extension that blends beautifully with the rest of the house. And of course an enlarged open plan kitchen that adjoins the dining room. The perfect place for Leo and his family to relax.
